Two weeks ago I have the opportunity to attend a board of directors meeting in Colorado. We are merging two organizations in to the new The Christian Adventure Association. The mission statement of the CAA is “We are a community that exists to glorify Christ by encouraging, edifying, educating, and equipping wilderness and adventure leaders.” Having the opportunity to be a part of such an exciting experience is a blessing. I have had a passion for the outdoors for almost 20 years and have been blessed with Christian mentors who have helped prepare me to be a practitioner and a leader. As we pause and give thanks at this time of year, I am thankful to God for the experiences that He has provided for me, and the opportunity to combine one of my greatest passions, outdoor adventure, with ministry.

I have been asked to contribute to the MBU blog page. I am excited about this opportunity for two main reasons. First of all, I would like to provide an insight to life at MBU and share aspects of what a faculty member at MBU experiences. Secondly, I would like to do something that I have been intending to do for quite a while. Put down my thoughts on the important events/experiences in my life. There is a personality exercise that uses a model of an iceberg. The idea is that about 90% of each iceberg is under water, it can not be seen. That leaves only 10% (I do have some incredible math skills) above the water. You might be wondering how in the world is he going to make the connection between his life and an iceberg? The 10% above the water is that part of you that others see. What they do not see is the other 90% that make up the majority of you as a person. The entire iceberg is there, but only a very small amount is seen. I hope to provide some insight as to what makes up the underwater, 90% of my iceberg. Students, faculty, friends and family see my above water 10%. I hope to shed some light on the individuals, relationships, experiences, concerns, and joys that have shaped me over my years to help me arrive at the place God wants me now, and what He has in mind for my future. I hope you enjoy my stories, experiences and ramblings (mostly ramblings).
